Purpose: Music is one of the most widely used artistic elements in different societies, which today has attracted a huge attention due to its extensive effects on human society. Music stimuli can affect human sports performance and gait as important indicators with different health indicators. This review study investigates the applications of listening to music on sports performance and gait.
Methods: The present study was conducted with the aim of a systematic review based on music interaction and sports performance and gait in accordance with the descriptive-analytical method. By searching in reliable citation databases, based on the keywords of gait, music, biomechanics in articles published between 2003 and 2023. After the final screening, the full text of 11 studies was extracted and analyzed.
Results: Based on the interpretation of the qualitative findings of the articles, it was observed that music can improve sports and gait performance. For example, in the gait kinematic section, walking speed, step length, rhythm, change of step time were improved significantly
Conclusion: Listening to music improve motor performance in clinical settings and functional environments. In addition, music can be used as one the therapeutic agent or directly in the treatment of people with movement disorders.
