Abstract:   (6448 Views)
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ankle sprain on the electromyographic activity of distal and proximal muscles of lower extremity. Data Source: A full literature electronic search was performed using google scholar, Science direct, Ovid database. The following keywords were used: Functional ankle sprain, Electromyography, Perturbation, Gluteus maximus, Gluteus medius, Tibialis anterior, Proneus longous. Study Selection: Study of Ankle sprain, English language articles, Case-Control studies and Use of surface electromyography. Data extraction: We found 29 articles through database (1995-2013) searching,13 articles, potentially relevant papers retrieved for evaluation of full text. Data Synthesis: Studies have found after ankle sprain, electromyography activity, onset time and amplitude of distal and proximal muscles of lower extremity decrease, postural control and movement pattern also changed. Key words: Electromyography, Functional ankle sprain & Gluteal muscles, Functional ankle sprain & peroneal muscles, Functional ankle sprain & perturbation.
